Overview

Clinton Hills Swim Club offers swim lessons to children between the ages of 9 months and 12. Classes are offered during four sessions and include 6 levels (listed below).  If classes do not fill up, we will offer rolling sign-ups. You will be notified of your time slot by phone on the weekend before classes begin.

Clinton Hills will offer a full range of swim lessons for 2023.

Frogs & Tadpoles Skills

(Parent/Child Water Acclimation, Safety)

Join us for this parent/child swim lesson and learn to enjoy the water together. Taught by a certified professional, parent (or responsible adult) and child will become acclimated to the water through games and songs while in a group setting. Parent will learn key safety tools to use at a pool or near water.

Parent and child are welcome to participate in this class until the child is 3-years-old and comfortable moving to the Flounder class on their own.

Water safety, proper use of flotation devices, water acclimation, movement through water, floating in the water, blowing bubbles, and more.

Requirements
A parent/adult is required to participate in the water at every lesson.

All children must wear a swim diaper.
Registration is limited to one class per child per session.

Prerequisites: Child must be 9-36 months old.

Flounder Skills

(Water Exploration) – child must be able to leave parent. Child will become acclimated to the water through games. Child will learn basic safety skills in addition to water submersion and floating with support.

Jellyfish Skills

(Primary Skills)

Cchild needs to be acclimated to water. Child will learn to be in the water unassisted on both front and back positions. Bobbing, floating and kicking will be the main focus of this level. Safety and learning through games will be incorporated in this level.

Beginners: 5 and 6 years old
Scared of water: 7 years old

Octopus Skills

(Stroke Readiness)

Child must be comfortable floating unassisted on both front and back. Child can recover from float to standing position unassisted and be able to use a propulsive kick. Child will begin learning freestyle, backstroke, elementary backstroke, treading water and diving. Safety skills and games will also be incorporated into this level.

Clownfish Skills

(Novice Skills)

Child will work to improve their freestyle and backstroke while learning all 4 competitive strokes. Emphasis will be placed on developing strokes that are swim meet legal.

Waitlist Policy

It is our goal to put every child into lessons. If you are on the waitlist, the Head Swim Lesson Coordinator will contact you with options if it is possible to get your child into lessons.

Inclement Weather Policy

Classes may be cancelled due to inclement weather. If thunder or lightning is in your area within 15 minutes before the start of class the lesson will be cancelled. When possible, a make-up class will be offered . Please visit our website for weather updates.
